After unsing it for a semester, I have found it has definate strong points (good diagrams, lots of example problems throughout the text) however, this doesn't make up for how how complicated Hecht makes simple concepts sound. Technically, I believe it deserves another half-star, it's definitely worth a read.. To me, this deck fails, both as playing cards and as a survival reference.

As playing cards, the numbers and suits are tiny and pushed too far into the corners, and the color coding is unfamiliar.

As a survival reference, it fails because it's superficial. This book is educational in many ways, perhaps most importantly in the way it is used: A food pruduct is looked up, the data is available to the consumer allowing each individual to evaluate his/her nutritional needs quickly and easily.
